How To Spot a Scam On Craigslist

Now, I know most people are thinking, "How to spot a scam? On Craigslist? This isn't 1995, you know. I'm hep to the whole, Nigerian Prince thing. I barely sent him any money last time!"
I thought myself pretty good at spotting scams, and really, haven't been taken in by anyone, but in my quest for a new job I've found that there is a lot of freaking crap on craigslist. I believe a real job can be found there (my last job was found there as well as a a few interviews recently), but in my desperation I've started replying to ads that look almost legit; they aren't "OMG TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE", and seem like, well, it could be a real posting. Most aren't. I don't think it's too big of a deal - my resume is out there on a few job boards, what more are they getting from me? But it gets annoying. So here are a few techniques I've been using to detect the scams.

WRV: Help Pass the Mvelope

I really love Google - I mean, who doesn't? They are one of the coolest, most creative companies around. They're fun and edgy and, in my opinion, not really about the bottom line dollar - I'm sure it doesn't hurt to make money, but to me Google has always seemed like the underdog that's making good on a dream.
Alright, so all cheezeball aside, todays weakly random video is a collaborate ad from Gmail users - even you can get in on the fun of showing where a Gmail 'Mvelope' travels as it's sent. Watch the neat & fun little video after the break, then hit up the source if you've got a Camera and want to get in on the action (and it's not August 13th, 2007, which is, btw, the deadline to submit).

One question though: why is the video hosted by YouTube?

This week's WRV is a favorite sketch of mine from the Upright Citizens Brigade, "Fortune Cookies in Bed". UCB always delivers. Let me know what you think in the comments :D

Gmail No Longer Invite Only; Thousands of Nerds Feel Less Cool

#Gmail, #Email, #Free, #Google

Although getting a gmail invite has of the last year been an extremely easy task (ie everyone has at least 100 to give out), it used to be something very difficult to accomplish (but I managed :D).
But now Googles approach to email has been opened up for all to enjoy! I can tell you from personal experience that it was a bit hard to transition away from Hotmail to Gmail, but only because Hotmail wouldn't forward my emails, and getting the old mails out of there was something of a feat. But I can also attest to Gmails awesomeness: you wouldn't believe how neat it is to have your emails sorted like a forum. Each message becomes a thread. With nearly 3 Gigs of storage (and rising) per account, you also never have to delete anything. It's quick, intuitive, and fun.
I know most people by now that wanted a Gmail account have one, but I thought for those that were on the fence because of the hassle of getting an invite, you could try it out and see how it works. If nothing else you can use it to get $10 off some etailers with GCO.

G4 Tv is very hit and miss with programming, but Office Jesus is one chunk of heavenly comedy that there should always be more of.
